MISSION

Keeping public lands waste free to assure they are safe, preserved and free for use by future generations.

VISION

Have those who use the land for recreation work as volunteers to identify and locate foreign debris (garbage) illegally dumped on the land.

Organize, facilitate, manage and particpate in large scale events that coordinate volunteeers and paid professionals to clean up the located areas - one area at a time - throughout the states that have federally owned Bureau of Land Management managed lands that are open for free recreation to anyone.

We feel strongy that, left unchecked, the garbage and debris discarded in these areas may force closure of the lands to public use, due to the expense of mitigation of the lack of funds available to perform that cleanup.

With ever dwindling land recources and space to partake of certain types of recreation (dirt bike riding, sand duning, horseback riding,  4-wheeling, rock climbing, desert racing, mule hiking, poker runs, etc) we feel it is imerpative to begin the effort now to keep these areas clean and assure they remain available for recreation.

The current Executive Team at Desert Preservation Society is all volunteer.

The executives below have a passion for the mission, and work tirelessly to assure the vision of the Desert Preservation Society is realized.

Vice President - Michele Forgues-Lackie

Riding in the Nevada Desert, Michele was conerned about the discarded trash, old furnishings, tires and other pollutants scattered throughout the trails.

Whether there for hiking, 4-wheeling, rock climbing, dirt bike riding, go-carting, bird watching or other rereational activity - the trash is both an obstacle to enjoying the environment & the activity, a  safety hazard to safety and harmful to the environment.

Michele's main conern was that, if this continues, the lands will have to close to free access and recreational activity.

President - Mark Lackie

Mark discovered the need to clean up the extensive amount of debris illegally dumped in the Las Vegas desert on a trip to test drive a Can-Am.

Mark has been an outdoorsman his entire life.  Choosing a career in the outdoors he has been trained in that role to recognize artifacts and other unique environmental situations that require/call for special and specific handling.

His close attention to detail and organization skills make the events he leads environmentally responsible, effective, efficient and a learning experience for all.
