About Us:

MISSION:

To keep public lands waste free and assure they are safe, preserved and free for use by future generations.

VISION:

What we do:

Have those who use the land for recreation, work as volunteers to identify and locate foriegn debris (garbage) illegally dumped on the land.

Organize, facilitate, manage and particpate in larger scale events that coordinate both volunteers and paid professionals to clean up the located areas - one area at a time - throughout those U.S. states that have federally owned, Bureau of Land Management managed, lands that are open to free recreation for anyone.

Why we do it:

We feel strongly that, left unchecked, the garbage and debris discarded in these areas could force closure of these lands to public use - due to the expense of cleanup, mitigation and the lack government funds to perform that cleanup.

With ever dwindling land and recources for outdoor recreation (dirt bike riding, horseback riding, hiking, sand dunning, desert racing, 4-wheeling, rock climbing, poker runs, mule hikes/experiences, etc.) We feel it is imparative to begin the effort NOW to keep these areas clean and assure they remain open, free and available for recreation.

The crisis/The problem:

Land is not an infinite or renewable resource.

With continued development and expansion, the availability of land for recreation is, and has been, diminishing rapidly.

Lack of government funding has closed national, state and local parks as well, leaving those parks that remain with limited hours, limited access, limited usage, limited care, maintenance and security, exacerbated an overcrowding issue.

The importance of preserving, maintaining and caring for these lands, for both the environmental quality, and to assure they are available and safe for future use, is imparative.

Do you have a place that you feel needs the Desert Preservation Societies' attention?

We rely on those out there using the land to:

1) Let us know when there is a garbage, dumping or debris issue with a public land that needs attention

and

2) Locate those debris sites and submit the lattitude and longitude coordinates to us, so that teams can find it during a locate event and remove the garbage during a cleanup event.
